Weekend report, 6/21/21

FTSC's Fruity Fives league is now two weeks into play, with last Wednesday's matches producing even more goals than in week one! Opening week's winners OLIVIApool RODRIGO and GAGAtasary played to a 6-6 draw, while the previous bye team CARDIff B opening their summer account with a 7-3 "feud" win over MINAJchester United. Real MADONNA had the bye this week, and will return to action this coming Wednesday against MINAJchester United, meaning at least one of the two will earn their first point(s) of the young season. OLIVIApool RODRIGO will face CARDIff B in the other match, with GAGAtasary on the upcoming bye.

Many other FTSC teams will begin play this coming week as well, starting this evening with co-ed D3 Crock Pot Body playing at Cardozo. Other matches include both women's teams beginning play (The Feds on Thursday evening and Victorious Secret midday Saturday) and an FTSC derby in the Sunday men's D3 league at Cardozo.

In other news, FTSC Hall-of-Famer Jim Ensor has announced the formation of the 202 Unique, an LGBTQ+ supporters' group for both DC United and the Washington Spirit. The 202 Unique joined the other DCU supporters' groups at a full-house Audi Field this past Saturday to watch United blank Inter Miami for the second game in a row. The Spirit were playing away this weekend, earning a 1-1 draw at Chicago, but the bigger news may be that Spirit forward and Japanese international Kumi Yokoyama has come out as transgender, the second NWSL player to do so. Kumi will feature as one of the panelists on the Spirit's annual Pride Panel on June 30th, which you can register for here.
