The Turkey Bowl is FTSC’s annual one-day all-gender soccer tournament on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It is a casual, low key affair and players of all stripes and skill levels are welcome. Individuals are placed on a squad of 6 or 7 players that remains constant throughout the day, but for each game two squads are paired up to form a complete team. The idea is that by the end of the day, you will have played with and against pretty much everyone, while being part of your own core group throughout. This is an ideal opportunity for new players in particular to play and meet our folks.
The Turkey Bowl has been played at various locations, including Carter Barron, Hains Point, Gunston Middle School, Washington-Lee High School, Virginia Highlands, the National Mall, St. John’s High School, and the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Fields.
The tournament is followed in the evening by a potluck dinner party that is one of the club’s social highlights of the year. Participation is free for FTSC members and costs a minimal fee for non-members. Watch the newsletter around October for more information on how to participate.
