FTSC Three-Peats at New York Indoor Classic
March 27, 2010 - After another successful run, FTSC is now the first three-time defending champion in the history of the New York Indoor Classic. This was the hardest-fought victory yet, with a tough 1-1 draw against the Dublin Shamrocks in regular play, having to overcome a feisty Philadelphia side in penalties in the upper division quarterfinals, and coming from behind in the semifinals to gain some revenge against the Irish. The final, played against Chicago Blaze I, was won in the closing seconds with a confident finish from Keith Dietterle off a nice assist from Dan White, who scored and assisted on the other two goals in the 3-2 victory and led the team’s offense with nine goals. Congrats also to the D-Listers for going undefeated in regular play and qualifying as the top seed in the upper division playoffs. Unfortunately, Boston got the better of them in the quarterfinals, 2-1. FTSC Betty White Bread, meanwhile, qualified for the upper division playoffs as the number five seed, and drew against eventual runner-up Chicago, who they also tied in round robin play. Chicago edged our guys in the 9th round of PKs. Doh! Kudos to FTSC 30 Rock Creek Park for their determined play - and to Tarik Carter for one of the niftiest goals of the tournament.
FTSC Hosts Women’s Indoor Tournament
March 20, 2010 - FTSC hosted its first ever indoor tournament, a 7v7 women’s tourney called the Women’s Winter Wrap-Up Indoor Cup. There was an upper division and a lower division, each with four teams. Top honors go to the King Kong ‘Queishas for taking the upper division title and to the DC Feds for prevailing in the lower division. Many thanks to all who helped put this extremely successful event together, especially tournament director Colleen.
Annual Meeting
January 30, 2010 - Despite falling snow, the 2010 FTSC Annual Meeting was a big success. Congratulations to Glenn Auve and Jim Ensor, who are the latest inductees to the FTSC Hall of Fame, and also 2009 Newcomer of the Year, Joao Freitas. A special thank you to Joylette, Hanin, and the rest of our hosts at the Carlyle Suites Hotel, as well as to all of our members who renewed their dues.
IGLFA 2009
FTSC hosted the 2009 IGLFA World Championships. We worked our tails off for a year to deliver our soccer-loving friends from around the world a top-notch tournament experience that we will recall with pride for some time to come.
