2023 Indoor Cup recap

The 12th annual FTSC Indoor Cup was the largest yet!  Held on March 25th and hosting 25 teams for the first time, the four divisions had a ton of excitement throughout the entire day with plenty of goals and close-fought matches.

Kicking off the day was the masters upper division with eight teams. After three rounds of games, points were tallied and seeding for playoffs were underway.  The final match saw New York’s Ladies Village Soccer (4-0) face off against Sprinkles (3-1).  Sprinkles had a dominating performance winning the championship game 7-2.  This was Sprinkles’ 7th time in the tournament, their first time in the masters division (f.k.a. Funfetti in the open division), and their 6th championship!

Next up was the open lower division with six teams. After many competitive and tight games, Clever Girls faced Over the Moon and came out with the win after a last minute goal broke the tie, ending the match 3-2.

The open upper division continued the energy in the afternoon with their five teams in a round robin format. Being the smallest division, it was thus the only one to not feature a championship match - at least officially.  After multiple ties and intense battles, one of the two games in the last round of the division featured 2Legit2Quit with a chance to catch the title if they won, but Shooting Stars came out on top with a clean 4-0 finish to the day!

Wrapping up the night was the open lower division with six teams. Multiple games decided by one goal, ties, and incredible field work led to the Philadelphia Lady Bandits versus Goal City in the championship finale. A very evenly matched final, the Lady Bandits made their drive down from the Liberty Bell worth it as they took home gold after a 3-2 finish.

The Indoor Cup also featured two charity efforts this year - a new sports bra donation box for Girls in Sport, and the traditional charity raffle, this year supporting Doorways in Arlington, a shelter dedicated to creating pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Between the raffle and tournament income, FTSC was able to donate well more than we ever have before, so thank you to all players, raffle participants, District Sports, and sponsors for helping us put on such a wonderful and successful event!

And as always, a huge thank you to Colleen for once again organizing such a great annual tournament. We hope to see everyone again next year!
