Weekend report, 8/31/21

It was a busy weekend for the club as many summer leagues wrapped up their regular seasons on top of Friday Night Lights, the Pride Cup, UNO at DC United, and a Spirit game!

Both FNL and the Pride Cup were hot and sticky but still well-attended affairs, with over twenty club members playing at Bundy Friday night (followed by a trip to Dacha) and eight five- or six-person teams duking it out at Brentwood-Hamilton on Saturday! Each team at the Pride Cup was named after a USWNT player, and played seven 15min matches over the course of the day. The winning team was "H is for Heath", consisting of Carlos, Marine, Pete, Kyle & Jaime. Congrats to our Pride Cup champions, and we hope everyone had a great time! Major thanks to District Sports for cohosting the tournament with us.

United Night Out returned to Audi later Saturday evening, with DC United taking on the Philadelphia Union. DC's Different Drummer performed during pregame festivities, and American Idol alum (and partner to FTSC regular John K.) Jeremiah Lloyd Herman sang the national anthem before kickoff. All UNO attendees were treated to a great game as well, (unless they were some of our friends visiting from Philly,) with DC United thoroughly outplaying the Union en route to a 3-1 comeback victory. Was a blast hanging with 202 Unique and the Screaming Eagles - with an awesome tifo topping it all off - and even with the Sons of Ben. =-) Vamos United!

Summer leagues are mostly wrapped up now, and last week wasn't incredibly kind to FTSC teams with the only win coming from Victorious Secret, but almost all active FTSC teams have at least one more game to play with four sets of playoffs in teams' futures! Three leagues also still have FTSC teams with at least a game to play still, but those last regular season games and all four sets of playoffs will wait until the weekend after Labor Day weekend. Then, there will be no break before Fall seasons begin, and even more FTSC teams will return to action!
