Weekend Report 4/12/21

Over the past month, many people have been getting vaccinations and many localities have been allowing for sports to begin again, and with that, some of our FTSC teams have been able to return to play!

It is imperative to note that all return to play so far has occurred outside of DC itself, which still limits large group contact sports like soccer. Both teams mentioned in this post have been playing in Maryland. Similarly, pickup opportunities are available in Maryland and Virginia (specifically Alexandria) if any of our members want to return to playing casually once a week or so! We will alert everyone when DC allows for soccer, including our normal Sunday morning pickup games in West Potomac Park.

On to the results!

FTSC's Rainbow Unicorns have been participating in the DC Premier League again this spring, playing up at Barrie School in Silver Spring. Their fourth match of the season was this Saturday against TVZ (2-0) with the Unicorns coming in at 1-2 on the season thus far. Unfortunately for the Unicorns, TVZ blanked them two goals to none, leaving the FTSC crew still looking for their second win of the season.

FTSC's top women's team, The Feds, have also been active over the past month, playing in District Sport's Women's Open league, also up at Barrie. They entered Saturday's match at 1-0-1 against the awesomely-named FC Blood Bath and Beyond (0-1-1). The Feds put the competition away with a shutout and three goals of their own, leaving our ladies in sole possession of the top spot in the league! Congrats, Feds!

The Feds then went to FTSC sponsor Denizens to both celebrate the W and watch the USWNT earn a draw against Sweden in Sweden. (pictured above) Denizens has been a stalwart sponsor for FTSC, and we hope everyone participates in our second edition of FTSC Support a Sponsor Week, going on now! Go get food & drink from our sponsors, take pictures, and share them on social media with the hashtag #FTSCSupportASponsorWeek and tagging the sponsors themselves so they can see how much we appreciate them. =-)
